What Do Temporary Internet Files Do?

Temporary Internet Files is a directory on the operating system.
A directory is nothing but a collection of files. Whenever we use internet the audio and video content from the websites we visit is stored in the cache memory. (Computer's memory is known as RAM-Random access memory). Cache memory is a part of RAM
which helps you to load the websites you previously accessed quickly.Another advantage is that you can access these websites offline(that is when you are not connected to internet)
These temporary internet files will be present on your computer's hard disk (A hard disk is a storage device present in the computer)
The temporary internet files reside on the hard unless you manually delete them. you can delete by clicking on Tools-Internet options-General Tab and there you can find Temporary internet files option. You can click on delete files button and delete cookies button to delete the temporary internet files.
The cache of the Browsers(like Internet Explorer, Opera, Fire fox, etc). This means that when you load a web page with Browsers, it is saved on your computer so that if you later decide to open the same page again, it will open a lot faster. Temporary Internet Files improve speed of web browsing and also make possible so called offline browsing, which gives you the ability to open the web pages from cache even when you are not connected to the Internet.

Drawbacks of Temporary files:
--------------------------------------

They compromise your privacy. Everyone with access to your computer can look into your Temporary Internet Files folder (location of this folder is discussed here) and see the sites that you have visited in the past. You can manually delete the contents of Temporary Internet Files folder (explained here) but this will not erase all traces of the pages because a special file called Index.dat is placed in this folder and it will still preserve the names and even the dates of your first visits to many pages.

we delete all traces that can be used to determine which pages were visited and can we enjoy the benefits of Temporary Internet Files without fear by using some soft ware like CCleaner, Easy cleaner etc.......
Temporary Internet Files is a directory on Microsoft Windows computer systems. Each time a user visits a website using Microsoft Internet Explorer, files downloaded with each web page (including html, images, Cascading Style Sheets and JavaScript scripts) are saved to the Temporary Internet Files folder, creating a cache of the web page on the local computer's hard disk, or other form of digital data storage. The next time the user visits the cached website, only changed content needs to be downloaded from the Internet; the unchanged data is available in the cache.

Despite the name 'temporary', the cache of a website remains stored on the hard disk until the user manually clears the cache. This is often regarded as a privacy issue, because anyone with access to the computer can view the cache. The contents of the folder are indexed using an index.dat file, a form of database.

On Windows XP, the cache is usually located at %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files (where %USERPROFILE% is an environment variable pointing to the root directory of the logged-in user's user profile). However, the cache may be moved by changing a value in the registry. Occasionally an additional cache named "Temporary Internet Files" may appear in %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files. This location can only be deleted by manually accessing the folder and removing it.
